Extractions normally require multi stage separations. The first pass carries out the largest mass transfer the second a polish. Two machines can be piped to act as a counter current function without interconnecting pumps.
The heavy phase outlet is located above the light phase outlet and the feed inlets. This allows the discharges to gravity feed into the inlets allowing a counter current flow.
There is no limit to the number of machines that can be connected in this way. This is when a string of centrifuges are used as effective Continuous Intensive Process. |
